POA’s Stan Patterson and two of our clients, Mike Fradera and Bill Mathews (both veterans), were featured in a special Veterans Day segment of the Golf Channel’s “Golf Central” program tonight. (Segment begins at the 17:50 minute mark.) #VeteransDay #NoBoundaries
4 of our POA kids were the lucky recipients of golf clubs and accessories at this year’s Celebrity Amputee Golf Tournament. We’d like to thank the organizer, Dave Bowen, for giving them this great opportunity and intro to golf! #NoBoundaries
Dear POA family: As you know, Stan Patterson has a huge heart for our wounded veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. On Sunday, 1-4-2015, POA is sponsoring the 2nd annual “Blackbeard Golf Tournament” at The Ritz Carlton-Orlando Grande Lakes. This tournament was created by Al Pucino, the father SSG Matthew “Blackbeard” Pucino who was killed in action on 11-23-2009 while on combat patrol in Afghanistan, and will benefit a local non-profit, Fairways for Warriors. We are asking your help in getting the word out about this tournament to potential sponsors and players and anyone wishing to donate to this very worthy and honorable cause. Please forward! Thank you so much for your help! Blackbeards Golf Tournament Registration
10-year-old Cameron hasn’t had a lot of good breaks in the past few years. Diagnosed with cancer at the age of 8, he underwent an above knee amputation and extensive chemotherapy to save his life. We met Cameron a few months ago when he and his mom visited our office to see if we could fit him with a leg that would allow him to be more comfortable, ride his bike, and participate in sports. Cameron checked out the “golf center” currently under construction at POA and excitedly told us that he was learning to play. Last week, he was thrilled to receive his new prosthetic leg and eager to go home and try it out. But we had a surprise for him before he left…. 🙂 Stan’s friends from Edwin Watts Golf on Turkey Lake Rd, Orlando, brought Cameron everything he would need to get him out on the golf course in style! – a bag filled with U.S. Kids golf clubs; golf balls; a U.S. Kids visor; Nike golf shoes; and Puma shirt and shorts to complete the look! Thanks to Edwin Watts Golf, U.S. Kids, and Nike for all your help!
Ken Green has been selected to receive the Bob Casey Award from the Connecticut Sports Writers’ Alliance for “overcoming adversity in an exemplary manner.” In the following article he talks about the influence some of POA patients have had on him and aided his recovery. In his blog Ken talked about that experience & also how Stan creates his “golf legs.” Ken’s leg was amputated after a tragic road accident as he traveled home from a golf tournament in 2009. Click here to view an excerpt from the blog entry
