We had a great time with Jack and his family last week! It was especially fun when Steve Chamberland brought some of his other 50legs.org kiddos up to meet them. Another bonus was that William, who is about Jack’s age, was scheduled for an appt. that day, too. Party at POA! Happy Tuesday, everyone!
There’s nothing better than seeing our POA kids get up and running….and having fun! Last week was a great one at POA, helping kids with all levels of amputation get moving! It didn’t matter what their level of amputation or how many limbs they were missing (single, bilateral, and quadruple amputees), they worked hard and played hard – together. One of the boys’ mom told us that he is frequently bullied at school and doesn’t know how to make friends. She’s hoping with his new prosthesis, confidence, and friendships that he will have a much better school experience next year. One of the many reasons we love to come to work every day. #ChangingLives #NoBoundaries
Had a great week with fireman Matt Hicks! He reported that he is back to all his regular activities, including actively fighting fires, which involves moving quickly and crawling around in small spaces. So proud of his success and blessed to be a part of it, along with Steve Chamberland and 50legs.org.
There was not a dry eye in the house as Ireland took her first steps on her new prosthetic legs. The first thing she asked Stan was, “I’m going to take my legs home?” ♥ How could he say no? Ireland left wearing the check sockets which were generously decorated with Dora the Explorer stickers (Stan’s great idea!!!). Tomorrow she will receive her laminated sockets; one with a Dora design and the other with a Minnie Mouse theme. WESH News Orlando Feature on Ireland Nugent’s First Steps
Steve Chamberland, POA friend, former pro wrestler, below-knee amputee, and founder of 50 Legs, a non-profit organization which raises money to provide prosthetics for children, has been nominated for Bay News 9’s “Everyday Heroes Viewers’ Choice Award”. Steve puts his heart and soul into his work. One of his most recent recipients was POA’s Zoe Gibbs, who is featured in a video interview of Steve entitled, “I’m glad I lost my leg; now I can help others.” You can view the video here —>Steve Chamberland interview and then cast your vote!

Steve Chamberland and Jimmy Hart during a visit to POA.
A couple of celebrities stopped by our facility yesterday—POA patient and former Professional Wrestler Steve “the freak” Chamberland and WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Hart, who managed over 75 wrestling superstars in his career! Steve is the founder of “50 Legs,” a non-profit foundation which provides assistance to amputee children. We are fitting the foundation’s newest recipient with a running leg next week. www.50legs.org
