Nate Winters inducted into NCAS Hall of Fame, 10/11/11

Congratulations to POA patient Nate Winters!! Nate was inducted into the NCAS Hall of fame on Tuesday, 10/11/11 at the 14th annual Giant Steps Awards Banquet. He was presented with the “Courageous Student-Athlete” award for returning to the game of baseball after losing his leg in a boating accident. Click here to read varticle.

ESPN Rise recently published an article about Nate Winters’ return to the mound two years after he lost one leg above the knee and badly injured the other in a boating accident.

Anthony Burruto continues to rise above the controversy surrounding Dr. Phillips High School’s decision to cut him from their baseball team

Check out this video of POA’s Anthony Burruto boxing! He hasn’t let the disappointment of being cut from Dr. Phillips High School baseball team keep him down. Anthony works out four days a week with a personal trainer who specializes in athletes who have physical limitations and military guys who are amputees. He plans to play on a travel team and try out for Dr. Phillips again next year. 😉 Click here for video link

POA Patient Anthony Burruto featured in ESPN Magazine article, “Let ‘Em Play”

This article is a couple years old; Anthony is now attending Dr. Phillips High School and a pitcher on their baseball team, but the story is just as inspiring today as it was then, which is why I’m sharing it now. You’ll also read about and see photos of other athletes who, like Anthony, are competing in non-disabled sports.
