A Profile in Faith and Courage, Kyle Kramer, AK Amputee

We received the most awesome message from POA patient Kyle Kramer! Such an amazing testimony.

Kyle underwent an elective amputation in early 2024 after enduring 10 years of severe pain since he developed compartment syndrome in both legs after a morning jog. Several surgeries on his most affected leg later, including a bk amputation which was later revised to ak, Kyle was finally pain free. He had a great, positive attitude from the start of the prosthetic fitting process, and although he encountered a bump in the road along the way (a severe infection which put him in the hospital on IV antibiotics), Kyle soldiered on and steadily regained his strength and independence. He wrote this while on vacation with his family: “ Hey guys, I’m on a boat trip in the north channel up in Ontario Canada for 2 weeks and I have been doing some amazing and difficult hiking. You guys are on my mind today after hiking across George island in Killarney. Thank you for all your help, all of the encouragement and guidance, and for helping me get started on this new journey. I feel confident and unstoppable again; I feel like there is nothing I can’t do, just like you all said. I have jumped off cliffs, hiked up a mountain and through rocky uneven terrain, and the leg is holding up just fine. Tomorrow I will be hiking in the Killarney mountain territory up to a small lake called Lake Topaz, a crystal clear mountain runoff lake surrounded by mountains and rock cliffs with my kids who can’t wait to do so with their dad. I have wanted to see this lake for 30 years, and it has become the first of many exclamation points that have motivated me throughout my journey over the last year and a half. The best part of this adventure I’m on with my family is that I am present for every moment and future memory, and pain free. I am free from the fear of pain I used to live in, and free from the shame I used to feel from avoiding activities with my family because of that pain. I wish I could say thank you in a bigger way! I am so grateful that I was led to POA. My family and I were in desperate need of some normalcy, and with your help we are finally there.”
